Project Description
Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild Things Are is a great introduction to this project. Check it out and get your creative juices flowing.
- Use a 14" x 17" sheet of Strathmore® Easel paper so you can create generous shapes that are really vivid when you paint them.
- Use a pencil to mark the center of the paper, then draw a circle from that which fills the top half of the paper. You will be drawing a monster of your own creation, but it must have a large head like those shown in the Sendak book.
- Draw a body under the head. Then add legs and arms along with a silly face.
- Add details such as clothing lines and patterns for the clothing.
- Trace all the pencil lines with a permanent black marker.
- Use watercolor paint to fill in all the shapes you have drawn, including the background.
